The course will explore the art and architecture of Venice between 1400 and 1800. Starting with a virtual tour of the city via the paintings of Canaletto, we will look at Venice’s history, unique urban development and how the problems of building in a lagoon were overcome, and how it became a vital centre for art and publishing. The course will also consider cultural aspects such as theatre, music and literature.
